Ap Bac
Viet Cong units defeat troops of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) at Ap Bac, a village in the Mekong Delta, destroying five U.S. helicopters and damaging nine others in the fighting. This is the first major defeat suffered by the ARVN. Three American advisers are killed in the battle.
