Race riots
Four days of rioting rack Chicago, and other riots erupt in urban areas across the country. Two months later, in Atlanta, there is more rioting; Stokely Carmichael, chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, is arrested and charged with inciting a riot. And in Grenada, Mississippi, a mob of whites attack black students attempting to integrate two neighborhood schools.
