President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1960
President Dwight D. Eisenhower A hero of the Second World War, General Dwight David Eisenhower was elected the 34th President of the United States in 1952 and was reelected four years later, both times defeating Adlai Stevenson. While he believed in the domino theory – if one nation falls to communism in an area, others are sure to follow – he avoided involving U.S. troops in a land war in Southeast Asia.
