Dear Mike,

…So how are you doing? You didn’t look too good the last time I saw you. Laying on that trail covered with blood. I really couldn’t believe that damn thing went off. I heard the explosion and I hit the ground. There was shrapnel dropping all around me. I got up and saw Newcome further down the trail rolling around. I went down there and he was bleeding. I couldn’t see you. When I finished with Newcome I went to see how you were. I had no idea you were hit that bad. The dust off came and I put all your gear on the bird. Then you were gone. I was messed up for two days and I’m not even kiddin. No one to talk to - - make fabulous C-Rat meals with or pull guard with. Oh, yeah, there was one thing I wanted to tell you. Do you remember when we were out in the field and I couldn’t get any “D” Rings for my rucksack and you told me if someone goes in on a dust off to take them off their ruck? Well I did, thanks they were on your ruck!! I laughed like hell when I thought about it later…

Always,
Mike
